The YMCA is incredibly proud to congratulate our Board Chairperson – John Flowers (pictured below) on being appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, in recognition of his outstanding services to the community.
For more than 45 years, John has been a guiding force within YMCA—locally here in Taranaki and across Aotearoa. From joining the YMCA Taranaki Board in 1975 to serving as National President, his leadership, passion, and unwavering commitment have helped shape generations of young people and strengthen communities.
John’s impact reaches far beyond governance. He has championed youth development, supported meaningful community engagement initiatives, and played a vital role in establishing a purpose-built shelter for those experiencing homelessness. His dedication to mentoring future leaders and ensuring the sustainability of YMCA Taranaki continues to leave a lasting legacy.
Beyond YMCA, John has generously given his time and expertise across numerous community organisations—from healthcare and education to emergency services and the arts—making a profound difference throughout Taranaki.
John, your service, leadership, and heart for community inspire us all.
