Te Whare o Tapatahi is a kaupapa Māori-based homeless shelter for tāne (men) in New Plymouth, led by YMCA Taranaki. Located on Lemon Street, our whare offers more than just a place to sleep — it’s a safe, structured, and welcoming environment where dignity, care, and connection are at the heart of everything we do.
Our Tapatahi whānau are tāne navigating complex life challenges — including homelessness, trauma, and disconnection. At Whare o Tapatahi, they find a space grounded in Te Ao Māori values and trauma-informed practice, where they can begin to rebuild their lives with stability, healing, and reconnection.
