weekend receptionist - permanent part-time

Start Date: 17 January 2026

Hours: 4 hours per week

  • Saturday: 2 hours
  • Sunday: 2 hours

YMCA Taranaki is looking for a friendly, mature, and enthusiastic person to join our team as a Weekend Receptionist. You’ll be the first point of contact and the welcoming face of the YMCA, helping us create a positive experience for our members and visitors.

What You’ll Do

  • Greet and assist members and visitors.
  • Handle phone calls, bookings, and general enquiries.
  • Process payments and maintain accurate records.
  • Support the team with administrative tasks.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience using accounting software (Xero preferred) – tell us about your experience in your CV or cover letter.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 (SharePoint experience is a bonus).
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service skills and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
  • Experience in cash handling and EFTPOS transactions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A sense of humour and a “can-do” attitude!

kindy gym assistant - permanent part-time

Location: YMCA Taranaki
Hours: 12 hours per week (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, mornings)
Start Date: 17 January 2026

Are you passionate about working with children and creating fun, active experiences?  YMCA Taranaki is looking for an enthusiastic Kindy Gym Assistant to join our team and help deliver our popular Kindy Gym sessions. This is a permanent part-time role, offering stability and the chance to make a real difference in the lives of tamariki.

What You’ll Do

  • Support and lead engaging Kindy Gym sessions for preschool-aged children.
  • Create a safe, fun, and welcoming environment for children and their families.
  • Work collaboratively with our team to deliver high-quality programs.
  • Setting up and packing down of equipment.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children in an educational, recreational, or care setting.
  • Ability to connect with children through play, with energy and enthusiasm.
  • Good level of physical fitness and a cheerful personality.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence interacting with parents.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Most importantly—a great sense of humour!

casual Maintenance person

We’re looking for a handy Jack/Jill of all trades to look after the general maintenance of the YMCA Taranaki on a casual basis, as needs arise.

The General Maintenance Worker’s role is a vital part of the Business Support and will contribute to the delivery of high quality services with a YMCA values driven approach. 

About you:

  • Experience in general maintenance work
  • Can provide own tools for the job
  • Ability to work autonomously, follow instructions well and be part of a team
  • Strong focus on Health and Safety in every aspect of your work
  • Can do attitude with great judgement and problem-solving skills

CASUAL SUPPORT WORKER – te whare o tapatahi

Te Whare o Tapatahi is a dedicated rough sleeping shelter providing emergency accommodation and holistic support for individuals experiencing homelessness in Nga Motu. Operated by YMCA Taranaki, the shelter embodies the values of manaakitanga (care and support), kotahitanga (unity), and whanaungatanga (relationships) to create a safe and supportive environment for tangata whaiora (clients).

At the initial stage, we will only be providing bathroom, laundry and kitchen facilities for the rough sleeping community for 2 days a week. We require 4 casual Support Workers, hours may be rostered between 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm, Monday to Friday. There will be two Support Workers on site each night.

senior SUPPORT WORKER – te whare o tapatahi

Te Whare o Tapatahi is a kaupapa Māori-informed emergency shelter supporting tāne experiencing homelessness. Operated by YMCA Ngāmotu, we offer sleeping, bathroom, laundry, and kitchen facilities for up to 20 tāne. Currently open three nights a week, we’re expanding to a seven-night service and growing our daytime programme.

More than a shelter, Tapatahi is a space of connection, healing, and empowerment. Our mahi is grounded in manaakitangakotahitanga, and whanaungatanga, creating a safe and inclusive environment for our whānau.

The Role
We’re hiring two permanent part-time Senior Support Workers to lead overnight operations. You’ll supervise junior staff, support tāne directly, and ensure the shelter runs safely and smoothly. You’ll work alongside security and junior staff to uphold a trauma-informed, mana-enhancing environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Crisis response and de-escalation
  • Accurate record-keeping and shift reporting
  • Promoting culturally responsive care
  • Liaising with external agencies to support client outcomes

Rostered shifts (14.5–23 hrs/week):

  • 6:00 pm – 9:30 pm
  • 10:00 pm – 7:00 am
  • 6:00 am – 2:00 pm

What You’ll Bring

  • 2+ years’ experience in homelessness, social work, or emergency accommodation
  • Empathy and understanding of homelessness challenges
  • Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ao Māori values
  • Crisis response and trauma-informed practice experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of mental health, addiction, and domestic violence services
  • Full, clean driver’s licence

out of school care supervisor

At YMCA Taranaki, we’re all about creating safe, fun, and inspiring spaces for kids before and after school—and during the holidays too! We run programmes across New Plymouth, based in local primary schools and at our awesome YMCA venue.

We’re on the lookout for a superstar Out of School Care Supervisor to join our crew! This is a permanent part-time role with:

12.5–15 hours/week during term time (Mon–Fri)
16 hours/week during school holidays (Mon–Fri)

Rostered hours range from:

  • 7:30–8:30am (Before School Care)
  • 2:30–5:30pm (After School Care)
  • 7:30am–5:30pm (Holiday Programmes)

What Makes You a Great Fit?

– Holding a full NZ driver’s licence is a must
