ECE Centre Manager – The Y Taranaki Childcare Centre

Full-time • 40 hours per week

Rostered hours between 7.00am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday

The Y Taranaki Childcare Centre is a warm, welcoming, and community‑focused ECE centre where tamariki, whānau and kaiako feel a strong sense of belonging. We are proud of our cosy, inclusive environment where relationships, culture, identity, and joyful learning sit at the heart of everything we do. The Centre is licensed for 49 children – 19 under 2s and 30 over 2.

About the Role

As Centre Manager, you will provide both professional leadership and operational oversight of our childcare service.

You will:

  • Inspire, mentor, and empower kaiako through strong pedagogical and professional leadership
  • Maintain high‑quality teaching practices aligned with Te Whāriki, Te Ara Whānui, Our Code, Our Standards, Tataiako and Tapasā
  • Build warm, respectful relationships with tamariki, whānau, kaiako and the wider community
  • Lead daily operations including enrolments, budgets, compliance and centre administration
  • Uphold safe and nurturing environments that encourage creativity, exploration and confident learners
  • Foster a culture of continual learning, reflection and professional growth
  • Embed our mission, vision and values in everyday practice and decision‑making
  • Ensure all legislative, regulatory and health & safety responsibilities are consistently met

What We’re Looking For

You will be a confident leader who brings professionalism, warmth, and vision to your work. To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • Experience managing an ECE centre is advantageous
  • Strong leadership with the ability to empower kaiako and lead by example
  • A passion for high‑quality ECE teaching and learning
  • An ECE or Primary teaching qualification + current full NZ Teaching Certificate
  • In‑depth knowledge of Te Whāriki, ECE regulations, compliance and assessment practices
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Strong organisational and time‑management abilities
  • Confidence with budgets, administration and centre management systems
  • Knowledge of Discover is advantageous
  • Current first aid certificate or willing and able to obtain one
  • Knowledge and experience with professional growth cycles
  • Willingness to work in ratio where needed

Do you love working with kids and making a positive impact in your community? YMCA Taranaki is looking for enthusiastic, caring, and bubbly Out of School Care Assistants to join our team on a casual basis. We provide before and after school care at local primary schools and at our YMCA Taranaki venue in New Plymouth, as well as exciting holiday programmes during school breaks.

CASUAL SUPPORT WORKER – te whare o tapatahi

 Te Whare o Tapatahi is a kaupapa Māori-informed emergency shelter supporting tāne experiencing homelessness. Operated by YMCA Ngāmotu, we offer sleeping, bathroom, laundry, and kitchen facilities for up to 20 tāne. Currently open four nights a week, we’re expanding to a seven-night service and growing our daytime programme.

More than a shelter, Tapatahi is a space of connection, healing, and empowerment. Our mahi is grounded in manaakitanga, kotahitanga, and whanaungatanga, creating a safe and inclusive environment for our whānau.

The Role

We are seeking compassionate and committed Support Workers on a casual basis to join our team. In this role, you will provide direct care and support to individuals using the shelter, including supervision, crisis intervention, security, and ensuring health and safety standards are upheld.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience in homelessness services, emergency accommodation, or social work.
  • Full, clean driver’s licence.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness.
  • Empathy and sensitivity in working with vulnerable individuals.
  • Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te Ao Māori values, and culturally responsive practices.
  • Skills in crisis response, de-escalation, and trauma-informed care.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with mental health, addiction, and domestic violence support services.
  • Commitment to health and safety protocols.

Desirable attributes:

  • Experience in a Kaupapa Māori or bicultural setting.
  • Knowledge of Housing First, harm reduction, and strength-based approaches.
  • Ability to speak Te Reo Māori or a Pacific language.

Rostered shifts:

6:00am-9:30am Sunday and Monday.

6:00am-2:00pm Friday, Saturday, and Tuesday.

6:30 pm – 10:30 pm Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

10:00pm – 07:00am Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Are you passionate about climbing and love working with people of all ages? YMCA Taranaki is on the lookout for an enthusiastic and caring individual to help create a safe, fun, and inclusive environment at our climbing wall.

As a Climbing Wall Instructor, you’ll be part of a team that supports everyone—from curious preschoolers to adventurous adults—on their climbing journey. If you’re energetic, community-minded, and ready to make a difference, we’d love to hear from you!

  • A casual role with flexible hours. This would suit a secondary/tertiary student as majority of work is evenings and weekends

  • Prior experience volunteering or working with children and or vulnerable groups is required.

We are looking for both non-registered and registered ECE or Primary qualified Teachers for casual roles in our centre, rostered hours can be between 7.00 am to 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday. Our Centre has opted in to Pay Parity.

casual kindy gym assistant

YMCA Taranaki’s Kindy Gym is a fantastic environment for preschool children to learn through play and grow in confidence with parent participation and interacting with our Kindy Gym Assistant.

YMCA Taranaki currently has a vacancy for a casual Kindy Gym Assistant to help us run our busy Kindy Gym sessions on an ‘as and when needed’ basis. We are looking for someone who would be available if required, either week days between 07:30 am and 12-1.00 pm Monday to Thursday during term time or weekends between 07:30 am to 4:30 pm Saturday and Sunday or both.

The successful candidate will require the following skills and attributes:

· An ability to connect and engage children through play with a high level of enthusiasm and energy.

· A good level of physical fitness.

· A cheerful and enthusiastic personality.

· Experience in a customer facing role and interacting with a wide range of people.

· Strong communications skills.

· Ability to positively interact with both children and parents.

· Strong organisation and time management skills.

· Have initiative when working autonomously or in a team environment.

· Have a current first aid certificate or the ability to obtain one.
